America: This is Your Warning Shot

Jan 09, 2011 09:25

As AC-DC said, if you want blood, you got it.

In a thrilling return to the days of yesteryear, when blowing up churches, holding up banks, and stringing colored folks from trees were considered acceptable forms of American discourse, an unhinged man (possibly with a less-unhinged handler) took Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and other Rupert Murdoch ( Read more... )

Indeed. This country was founded on violent rebellion. But the time and place for such things is when you have exhausted literally every other option at least twice, and/or when the government is actually at Nazi-levels of bad. (And no - universal health care is not Hitler-esque.)

Last I checked, this was still a civilized society. Time for armed struggle, it is not.

It's awfully close to the hairy edge of not being civilized. See also TSA, torture, the endless war in the Middle East, and yesterday's events. I would *really* like to drag it back from that brink, kicking and screaming if necessary but *alive*.

Sadly, those things come from the very hands of the folks who WANT to seize power through violence here - as if they didn't have enough power already...

But, let's not forget that the person doing the shooting is responsible for their own actions.

In this case, possibly not. Have you seen his videos?

The shooter was definitely paranoid schizophrenic. What's more, I believe that the rhetoric of Beck, Palin, et al-- was INTENDED to create this type of reaction from "crazies" such as the shooter. Listeners of these very shows have been warning about such a reaction from a less stable individual for YEARS. They incited domestic right-winged terrorism with malice aforethought. They should be held accountable.

I doubt they will be. They've been paid off. But they should be.

Not to defend Palin, I am disgusted by her as much as anyone... but early evidence implies that this gunman was plenty whacked with or without Palin or anyone else ( ... )

I see what you're saying. However....

For several years now I have listened to people from the left WARNING that the BLATANT, OBVIOUS, and REPEATED rhetoric from the far-right would result in this very thing.

The Palin/Fox News types have been really CLEARLY telling people to KILL left-wing, liberal, democrats for YEARS. We've been warning these same people for years that eventually some crazy will take these sorts of directions and instructions seriously.

And we're supposed to be surprised when they did? What the hell!?

The right-wing nutjobs like Palin KNOW that certain people with mental illness will take them too seriously, and I believe that they have been aware that this sort of reaction is not only possible, but probable. Therefore, to protest innocence NOW is unforgivable.

They knew what they were doing. Don't fall for their lies.

The shooter has paranoid schizophrenia. I maintain that he is EXACTLY who Palin et al have been hoping and praying for all along!

He uses some stuff that references the Patriot Movement---gold currency, for example, and the 'second' Constitution, which they use to refer to anything after, I think, the Emancipation Proclamation. The references to grammar and so forth refer to a Patriot Movement guy who used to claim that if one used the right combination of numbers and apostrophes in one's name one didn't have to pay taxes. Remember the Posse Comititus Movement in the Eighties? HE's also anti-government----and that's classic Rightie these days.
