1. For those of you who've seen the Golden Age, was it good? What was it rated? How historically accurate is it?

2. A guy at work has met someone oneline, and she wants him to guess her last name. The clues are:

a. English origin
b. Could be considered embarassing
c. Has relatives with the same last name in the Napa wine

Golden age:

Costuming: 9/10.
Acting: 7-8/10.
Historical accuracy 6/10 (the one thing they got right was the naval battle).

Overall, worth seeing, but don't expect it go give you any sort of accurate sense of the history. For that, watch the BBC version.

I don't see "Butler" as being especially embarrassing, though. I'm thinking more of an insult kind of word - my second guess would be "Pratt". My first guess was "Bloody", which probably isn't right.

Well, I for one wouldn't be embarrassed to be named 'Butler', but I knew a girl in school with that name and she couldn't say it out loud because it had 'butt' in it, so it's what popped into my head. Hee hee!

1. Enjoyed it. Excellent costuming Dressmaker thought it was pretty accurate - most costuming and dates/details though it helped to know the history beforehand. I wouldn't call it raunchy at all - some tasteful nudity (backsides, no full breast shots), obvious death scene, one or two other blood scenes.

2. I'm not so great at name origins and I don't know what she'd consider "embarassing" but check out http://www.napavalley.com/wineries/alphalistings.html.

Do you want to know if it's okay for Horse?

That is a good list--at the minimum, one can eliminate the Italian, German, and Totally Made-Up names. On the other hand, I think that's a fairly irritating "ooh, guess!" request.

On that list there's "Spottswoode", which would be my next candidate, although "PlumpJack" isn't a difficult name to be embarrassed about either.
