I'm noticing a pattern with the mare. The first time I try and do something with her she gets a bit titchy about it, then behaves. I'm hoping this transfers to ridden work. It might be a bit of a testing you phase, as well. Just to see what she can get away with.

Indeed, I think that's a part of it. I'm thinking last owner was a bit of a softie with her, and she's just trying it on; especially with the bridling and catching.
