Lunged her this afternoon in the big paddock which has just had hay taken off it. Some Attitude was displayed on the offside rein, but quickly sorted out. Really want to get on her now, she did some lovely active work. Hopefully there's someone about tomorrow evening.

Went back tonight and had a wee ride on Charlie. Much better. C was off for a hack with the neighbour's daughter as I arrived. However another neighbour's daughter was hanging about being inquisitive "Is Charlie your horse?" What days do you ride Charlie?" etc. She was all of four. I'm noticing a pattern with the mare. The first time I try and do something with her she gets a bit titchy about it, then behaves. I'm hoping this transfers to ridden work. The mare has managed to figure out how to roll under the wire, so I bought some extra fence standards today and pegged them at very short intervals, and then hooked the wire up to the electric fence, which should keep greedy guts out of the long grass. Again she was easy to catch ( Read more... )

C rang at 8am this morning to tell me my mare had escaped her hotwire, so I went off to see her. We couldn't figure out if she'd gone over or under it, she certainly hadn't gone through it. Success with bridling and lunging at walk and trot on both reins. This is working out far too easily!

M came to trim my girl's feet this evening, and she behaved beautifully; she was half asleep through most of it as I stroked her. He also trimmed Charlie's feet at my paddock owner's request. Charlie is a big bay standy and a great big smooch. He'll rub his head against you so hard he pushes you into the 'leccy fence. My girl got a wee bit ( Read more... )

I also collected my old saddle last night, which has been sitting in a garage at my cousins for 15 years. Thanks to me taking such good care of it, and it being English, it cleaned up beautifully.
