So, I traveled two hours and stayed for six nights at an overnight diabetes camp for one of my rotations last week. I do not have diabetes - but all of the kids have to have diabetes to stay at this camp, and I went as a "med staff" member. And, because I had to in order to pass the rotation, obviously. omg. annoying.
I feel so sad for kids that young who have to deal with constant shots and stuff like that. Breaks my heart. I'm so glad they have people to help and camps like this.

I do, too, but the great thing really is that they don't feel sorry for themselves. They just want to live normal lives and not be considered different.
There was a speaker that asked the kids who had been told they couldn't go on a field trip, play a sport, etc. because they had diabetes. I was shocked at how many kids raised their hands. That's what kills me - not the shots/finger pricks, but the societal aspect.
