I think it's been a little while since I actually wrote something worth reading... not that I'm promising this'll be worth your time either, but hey ( Read more... )

I think it's part of our job description somewhere...
"You must put your child's cleaniness above your own."

Wow...I didn't realize circumcision was that uncommon?

I was pretty positive YHVH's commandment had spread a little farther than just the Jews.

It IS pretty common, especially in the United States.
The rate in the US, of non-immigrants, is UPWARD of 75%. I say that, because that 75% is ONLY the recorded circumcisions, performed in the hospital after the baby is born. It doesn't include a bris, done on the 8th day, nor does it include circumcisions done in military (government) hospitals, or any that are performed outside of the hospital the baby was born in at all. So, yeah... upward of 75%.

Anti-circumcision activists would have you believe differently, but the rates in the US are doing nothing but rising. Of course, they mention the west coast, but the only overall drop there is because of IMMIGRANTS, and most second generation immigrants ARE circumcising their children, so I hardly find that drop to be relevant, and I'm also not going to base my medical choices off of "what the world is doing" when that includes countries that don't even have running water or the medical abilities to stop things that to us are insanely minor.

Circumcision is a far more clean way of going about things. Infections are not uncommon for men who /aren't/ circumcised, so one would think that third world countries without modern medical supplies would be circumcising more often than not.

Still, completely mind blowing that anyone would tell you that you are a bad mother for circumcising your child. It's his future sex life, generally speaking, and I wouldn't trade my circumcised penis for one that isn't...that's for damn sure.

Oh, trust me, I know. When I read boards of anti-circumcision activists, I find a lot of discussion about smells, sores, etc, and I rarely hear those problems coming from the moms in my circumcision group.

Like I said, Jake, the mom world is the most vicious and judgmental social circle there is!
If I circumcise, I'm a mutilator, child abuser, my son should sue me for damages, blah blah.
If I say breastfeeding is best, it's apparently synonymous with "Formula feeding moms are bad mothers."
If I'm pro-choice, I'm a hypocrite for being a mother, and maybe my mom should have aborted me, or I don't care about children at all.
If I choose to not teach my son that Santa is real, I'm ruining his childhood and just cynical because I wasn't raised that way, and I don't want him to have something I didn't...

It's absolutely, positively STUPID.
