Thinking out loud...

I've got the clothes packed. The toiletries. My share of the booze. Some dry goods (strawberry milkshake oreos, 'smore fixins, a notebook, plastic flatware and a pack of cards). Two copies of directions are written out (as our printer doesn't work). I've made three mix CDs for the trip. I need to pack an extra memory card and the camera battery ( Read more... )

We didn't get around to the skinny dipping due to too much rain and cold weather, but I did get in some dancing in my underwear, so all is well. =P I still hate the feeling that my weight is the elephant in the room with my friends; they get awkward when I bring it up even in casual mention. I also hate how my friend's girlfriend went on a rant about how diets don't work but "lifestyle changes" do: that if we counted calories, exercised and ate all-natural food we'd all be thin. (This woman is maybe a size smaller than me, so obviously this strategy is not working).

Rebecca said "But what about metabolic disorders?"

She said that metabolic disorders are the result of not living in a "green" society.

Sorry, I had to rant to someone.

I am totally hip to HAES and FA, and luckily, so is Rebecca (though we both do still struggle a lot with it). But my friends, though they love and support me and would never make a negative remark about my weight, are a bit baffled by the whole thing and still cling to the conventional wisdom of fat = bad for you.

I've been wanting to get more involved in fat-friendly spaces; I keep thinking about joining the forum at Shapely Prose but I worry that with my hectic work schedule and all the other things that I do, that I won't be able to keep up with it.

I am kind of torn about fatshionista. I am kind of a whore when it comes to clothes and shopping, but there seems to be a belief among some of the members there that if you're fat you have to work that much harder with your personal styling to better the image of fat people everywhere. I heard that a casually-dressed woman got ripped apart on that community for "perpetuating the myth of the lazy, unkempt fat woman." That irks me...
