- We got the computers back last night. Mine had not one but eight viruses. Rebecca's had 68 viruses. For serious. They installed new virus-protection software for both of us. (I had a program but it was out of date. I'm not sure if Rebecca had any protection

I'm pretty sure porphyrin doesn't present in urine. It's produced by the Harderian gland behind the rat's eye. It really concerns me that Ernest isn't producing urine now, though. I think the vet might have missed something. If he isn't urinating, I'm worried about stones/crystals in the urinary tract... some kind of blockage. Could you get a second opinion?

He's peeing now, and there's no red in it. I think he didn't want to pee in the bath tub.

Haha. I know some rats don't like to go outside their cage... my girls would always wait until they were back in their cage to go. I counted it as a blessing. :P

Anyway, glad he's peeing normally now. Could it have been something you fed him? I think some things might darken the urine.

Normally he doesn't mind peeing outside the cage, but I had to have him on a surface where I could suck up the pee in a syringe.
