I spent part of the afternoon today stitching up Jack Barleycorn's head. Each spring, as we celebrate May Day, Earendel builds a scarecrow - an effigy of the spirit of the coming harvest - and stands it on somebody's land. (This year Jack will stand at Dunholt.)
