[Arashi] Nino - MORE - 08/2016

I really liked this latest issue of Nino's It column and decided to translate it. Sometimes Nino can be very frank about his thoughts, especially towards things you would normally expect him to be blase and vague about. In this one, he talked about the hypothetical situation of somebody leaving Arashi. KAT-TUN was also mentioned ( Read more... )

I know what I'm about to say may be disliked by many but this interview left me a bit empty. It might be a cultural/emotional thing, maybe it means something different in the Asian culture?

Part of me believes that Nino is the type of man who will not ever lay his true feelings out for others to hear or see. I think he's a man who cares deeply and very emotionally, but we, the fans, the audience will not ever be shown that side of him. But...

It's the use of the word obligation, Websters Dictionary defines it as "something that you must do because of a law, rule, promise, etc. : something that you must do because it is morally right".

To me that means he does it because he HAS TO, it almost causes a pain in my heart to hear him use that word. I want Nino and the others to be Arashi because THEY LOVE BEING ARASHI! I know they care about each other, as Ohno once said "it's more than friends, different than family, it's Arashi". I love that explanation, I feel what Ohno is saying.

If it helps, he meant it in the context of repaying a favour, or owing a debt of gratitude rather than the literal sense of obligation you're thinking of. He feels obligated to return the kindness being shown to him, hence him feeling that quitting would be like biting the hand that feeds him.

I was reading the original Japanese too, and felt a bit empty too ^^
While I know a bit of Japanese culture of this obligation to repay, it makes me wonder if he were truly happy to do what he does.
Of course I understand that he knew he had his livelihood, perhaps being Johnnys and Arashi is now the only way of living that he knows. But still I sometimes feel that in a way, he's weary of this life as well.

I sometimes think that Nino has this rather traditional way of thinking. Not making trouble to others, repaying back of what is given, and how he sees woman too.

Thanks for the translation.
Interviews with Nino are entertaining. I always have to read a couple of times before I can fully comprehend what he means. I feel like a teacher could set it up as an essay topic and the responses would be wide ranging (as I'm already reading in this comments section :)

Thank you for sharing. It makes me admire Arashi and Nino more, because they don't have star complexes. They recognize how much they mean to each other.

Thank you for translating this!! :) I think it's very true that if any one member leaves, Arashi's group dynamic will change..... I don't even want to think about them disbanding lol but this is just proof of Arashi's love for each other and for the group as a whole~~
