Thanks Joan. We appreciate it. I was hugging and crying with Dave and Lucy last night.

Well, for what it's worth, you probably want to keep her on something along the lines of cimetidine and benadryl to prevent her from having GI ulceration or hives or any of the other things you can see if/when those mast cells degranulate. Those drugs don't treat the tumors, but they prevent the bad secondary systemic effects of histamine and other chemicals in the mast cells. There are other drugs/protocols too. Hopefully your vet has a plan in place for you guys.

She may have been one that cimetidine (is it a pill?). After the surgery on the tumor on her neck the vet had her on prednisone, antibiotics and something that would help her tummy if she got sick. He did mention that ulcers could become a problem.

I haven't told the vet yet as we just made the decision last night so I will have to call him and talk to him again for his advice.

I am glad that you posted Hillary--do you have any idea how long a dog with a history of grade 2 tumors (4 in 2 years) could live without the surgeries? I suppose it is like any kind of cancer, one can't answer for sure.

Thanks for your sharing your knowledge.

I will definitely check out the link. Thank you for all the information. The vet told us that she doesn't have it in her liver, spleen or lymph nodes but he hasn't done those tests you mentioned. I am guessing he will suggest the tests once I talk to him again.

Thanks Michelle. Poor girl indeed, I was looking into her beautiful brown eyes last night and talking to her and it was as if she understood what I was saying to her.

I'm sorry it's not better news.

Vibes that she'll be happy and comfortable for a long time to come.
