Hey there!! Thanks for the lovely wb. :) And I'm working as a court reporter and it's fabulous. I don't do steno, which is the funny little typewriter-looking machine. I do real-time voice reporting, which means I sit in the legal proceeding, take about a zillion audio recording from different points in the room and also repeat every word that's spoken into a steno mask. Then I take all that home and turn it into a written transcript that goes to the attorneys, judges, etc. as official evidence.
It's fabulous because when I'm not at the hearing/deposition/whathaveyou, then the rest of my job can be done from home. I'm not tied to an office or a 9 to 5 schedule and it's totally up to me how much work I want to take. I couldn't have asked for a better opporunity to pop up with four young kids still at home!
My heart leapt all the way up into my throat when I saw this post show up on my friends list. I've missed you so much. So has Cat. I can't even count the number of times I've thought about you or wondered what you'd say about a story idea or even pondered how I could arrange my travel plans to take me toward your part of the world.
I know time is a scarce resource for you nowadays. Do you think you're likely to have time to talk, whether over email or IM or whatever?
I am indeed alive! I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch. Like I said in the post, I just kind of circled the wagons at home and went from there. The best way to catch up with me is likely here or email. Between the kids and work, phone & IM conversations are hard to sustain. *imagine my doing that swirly cartoon thing* But I do want to catch up with y'all. Let me know what's going on with the two of you!!!!!!
I know exactly what you mean about the terminal illness. I felt like I was being melodramatic sometimes saying that the moment I found David was screwing around was when my heart cracked open but it took a while for my love for him to die - but that's the case. Now I'm kind of wishing someone would euthanise this marriage. The divorce is taking for-fuckin-ever.
Well done for sorting all your stuff out - scary but hugely satisfying, right? Lots of YAY all over the place. From one phoenix to another: Welcome back.
Thank you!!! But boy, it sucks to hear that you're experiencing it too, especially with such a tiny little one. Not that it's ever easy, but my god, I think there's a special pit for guys who dick around when they have a BABY at home. NOt that I'm biased or anything
( ... )
Aw!! I'm really back!!! Really, really back!!! I've really missed everyone here and I'm so glad that most everyone is still around.
But more specifically, JANE!!!! You know, I thought of you all the time, because we had a store open here that carries REAL Cadbury and Hobnobs and Jaffa Cakes and omg, even tinned Spotted Dick! Made me miss you something fierce.

How spooky is it that I'm actually eating Jaffa Cakes right now!
I'm fine. Everything is much the same as it was before you left! Man, I'm glad you're back!

I'm looking forward to diving in and seeing what's up with everyone after my year (or more!) away.
