Why is it I can watch TV dramas about murder and violence with (relative) equanimity, but when I hear about a momma cat who rescued her 5 newborn kittens from a burning building, only to die while trying to save the last one, I can hardly keep from turning into a blubbering mess?

And a better question is, why can't I learn not to watch Animal

Because TV dramas are fiction and what the cat did was real and you know the gift a cat's life can be and you want to save the world ... and you couldn't save that one courageous life and her kitten.
