Our Wildflower and Wildcat

Nov 17, 2008 20:21

One of our vacation days we drove a couple hours south to Asheville to hang out with our niece Rachel who we have nicknamed Wildflower.  She's working her way through college there working at an organic food store.  It was the first time we've had one on one time with her, and she's opening up more with us as she grows up and becomes her own person ( Read more... )

So Mitchell is not into lavender? :p Rachel looks so happy. Glad you enjoyed your time with her.

I love when I see wildlife unexpectedly. I doubt I would have realized it was a bobcat though. Good for you.

Mitchell gave me a hard time for posting the bobcat picture since it could be a picture of anything!

You got out of the car with that bobcat out there?? Brave girl! Not knowing what the heckelas that was, I'd stay put! But I can clearly see da bobcat, so Mitchell was wrong about you posting the pic. :-)

Potato leek soup is awful! I hate it. I can imagine how much worse it would be with lavender. Eww!! Lavender? That reminds me of perfumed soap; doesn't seem to be a good combo with food. Don't blame Mitchell for turning up his nose at it. But vegetarian food is under-rated. We have a good veggie restaurant in Austin called East Side Cafe.

Is your niece from your side or Mitchell's? She looks like she'd be a happy person.

I got pretty close too. The close up photo didn't turn out since he ran into the brush and blended right in.

I can understand why Mitchell didn't like it. I liked the restaurant though, and Rachel was so proud to be taking us there.

Rachel's from Mitchell's side. She's a sweet girl with a good head on her shoulders. She's always worked hard, makes good grades and is not a party girl. She's a little beyond her years, and that's probably why I like her.

Your niece kind of reminds me of the sisters and nieces of John's family. They are blessed to have been born with the happy gene. Everything makes them happy! The sight of a blooming, colorful Cosmo flower will send them into ectasy. They are so content with the little things. And I don't get it. Don't get me wrong-I'm not a depressive but my mind doesn't become elevated like this (without drugs). For me to feel that level of happy, I have to be at an amusement park or be doing something that is fun and engaging. I need to be spending money - just something that is a little bit out there. Gazing at flowers and doing puzzles are not going to be it. I don't know if this is part of the Bipolar disease of not appreciating flat-line moods and the simple happiness which comes with that or if I just wasn't born with the Pollyana gene.

Bobcats are extremely shy animals. Oddly, I have to agree with you on this. I'm going to slap scampigirl on the wrist for getting out of the car with a Bobcat so close to civilization. It shouldn't have been there and she should have questioned why it was so close to human activity.

Bobcats are small animals - They can scratch the shit out of you, maybe bite you seriously, but it's unlikely that they could do any real damage or kill you. Unless they are diseased.

I would definitely side with Mr. Scampi - lavender is not my food of choice! :P

What a pretty family! I just watched a show where this young girl comes into the vets complaining that her cat might have behavioral issues. Turned out her boyfriend had given her a bobcat! They sure are pretty though, but not tame.

I hear Ashville is so pretty. It's always written up in travel magazines. Probably why so many tourist. As for the retirees, don't they eat about 4:30 p.m. and are in bed by 9 p.m.? Seriously, it would be a lovely place to retire. As long as they don't make those smarmy 55 plus communities where they don't allow pets or children. Those sound so regimented and boring. Okay for some reason I just got a picture of Jerry Seinfelds parents in their community in Boca Vista...lol.

P.S. Lavender is for toilet water not soup. I know a lot of places like to use different herbs and flowers, but ick! Then again I don't really like taragon (sp?) much but I will try things like juniper berry sauce which is very yummy over venison filets.
