A lot of research, though I've taken a break to finish off Joe Abercrombie's second novel in his fantasy trilogy (Before They Are Hanged, I think it is called - fun, but jesus, can you make any more unlikable characters? It's like he has a hangup for writing

Where in West Virginia are you from?
Apropos of nothing, I just found out one of my favorite bands - Swans - is 'reformed' and is touring again, but the furthest West they'll be playing is Chicago. Might have to visit your neck of the woods come October!

In Southeast Asia, where I come from, head coverings are still usually in non-black colours, or printed with patterns. Plain single-coloured versions (not necessarily dark colours either), particularly the very long, half-body length headscarves (with possibly a veil), are associated with the very conservative set. The use of fancy colours and patterns today seems to be at least partly related to reclaiming veils and headscarves as personalised expressions of faith for fashionable muslimah.
