Trouble is, the PSP is just so much better than the Nintendo thingies. So save up a little longer and get one (you can even watch video on it).

Ah, but will there be any good RPGs for the PSP? I have been tempted by the PSP, too -- it does look cool!

One of the biggest Japanese franchises is due very soon...

Define 'better'. The PSP is beautiful, but it doesn't have one single, solitary game I'm interested in. Not one. Perhaps it will later. And Sony are doing their very best to restrict me from doing all the other cool things I might want to do with it, like download videos and play MAME ( ... )

The DS is just a great little machine. I'm completely addicted to Animal Crossing: Wild World. The addition of a little PDA style touch screen just changes everything and let's them do a lot of "fascinating" things that other games can't.

Your posts about it were one of the things that started getting me interested in a DS! Animal Crossing does sound like fun. :)

The machine itself. I have 2 dead pixels, one on each screen. The screens are completely readable and i find the device fits nicely in my hands with the exception of the buttons on the back, which are a little awkward.

The graphics are much improved compared to the GBA, far more cartoons and less like "sprites." I can't compare the backlight because I have a GBA SP (well I would have it if i could find it...)

I do worry about the long term reliability of it. It doesn't have quite the solid feeling that the GBA SP had.

I need a good pinball game

Of course, for years I've played games on my PDAs (eg my Sony Clie has a little productivity software and 28 games, mostly from Astraware) using the touchscreen. I'm only just realising that elsewhere in the forest this is a new thing. One of the weird things about handhelds is that I have become used to paying download-distributed prices for games; discovering that I'm supposed to pay boxed-games-on-shelf prices is a bit hard to take.

Don't use the credit card on it. Put money aside each week/month at a price you agree with yourself to save for it. When you've got enough, see if the novelty value is still so great that you want one and make the decision there.

That's the sensible way of approaching it.

It's not what I'd be likely to do though.

Additionally, the price may have come down a little in the intervening period.

You always know the most sensible way to approach things. :) I was thinking of putting it on the card and paying it off immediately, but I *could* pay cash now if I go out to an actual shop instead of ordering online.

the DS is not bad at all - the games seem to be coming out for it and there are some corkers. I agree with the above person - save a little each month - maybe $20 here and there and DS day will arrive in no time at all :D

I'd favor Hawkida's approach, I think, perhaps accelerated by selling off your current e-game technology to help fund the upgrade.
