Yes, this happened to my old laptop. It was the cord - do you have another one you can try?

I pulled out my defective power cord (the one with exposed wire that need to be pulled and prodded into shape) and it did connect so at lease I can get some power. I ordered a new cord but I have a sneaky suspicion it could be an internal connection as well.

One thing you can try is shutting down the laptop, removing the battery and then replacing it. Sometimes this resets things like this.

That was the first thing I did and there was no joy. It' definitely cord and/or internal connection. Thank goodness for service plans.

I tend to forget about service plans. :(

Good luck in getting it replaced/fixed.

I've had it happen more than once (and it's happening to my current computer). It's actually been the motherboard every time. The connection between the power cord and the mother board doesn't sit tight. Try twisting the plus and/or taking it out and pushing it in.

But over time I had to have the motherboard replaced and since my guarantee ran out, I'll be having a nonmovable laptop from here on out. sigh.

Sadly this same thing happened to me. I tripped over the cord one too many times.

Good luck.

Argh.

It's funny with all the many parts that a computer has it's something this...solid and breakable :)

That's my biggest fear this moment. There has been more than a few incidents of "cord tripping" and I think the connection could be damaged. I've ordered a new cord but I since I still have a few months left on my service plan I may send it in for a diagnostic.

Non-movable laptops are an especilly cruel sort of torture.

When my old laptop was doing that, I thought it was the cords, but it was actually the motherboard (I think) overheating and *melting* the connection with the cord. I melted three new cords in three months. I never could get the laptop apart to replace the connector.

Meep. Good luck, and hooray backup drives!

Three cords? Yikes. I've ordered a new cord (and dug out an old, defective cord that, while it may shock me to death, will power up the laptop with a bit of jiggery-pokery. I think, however, since so many people have mentioned the motherboard that I may send it in for a diagnostic since I still have a few months left on my service contract - which covers accidentl damage.
