You have taken a step today grasshopper :) Good for you to fight your inner demons and recognize them for what they are. I'm going to let you read more without trying to influence you except on the one small point...

McCain's mom is 90+ years old and as sharp as a tack. He's going to be with us for a while. ;-)

Shall we teach the controversy? sircorby August 30 2008, 00:53:59 UTC
Some people absolutely believe that the world is flat or that the earth is at the center of the universe.

Shall we present that info in basic science classes? It has every bit as much scientific validity as creationism.

Creationism is NOT science, and must not be confused with it.

we DO present the fact that some people believed it...in our HISTORY classes. I'm surprised when liberals fear to teach a history that doesn't perpetuate their agenda.

Are you under the impression that creationists only want it taught in History. They want it presented as an alternative and equally valid theory of how we got here.

Oh?

"Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.

I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

If it's any comfort, my immediate reaction was much the same as yours - and I am NOT a neanderthal and have a strong interest in women advancing into new territory. I listened to her speech, and really couldn't turn off the 'vice president barbie' voice from Toy Story II. Yet, I am impressed by what I have seen of Alaskan's opinions of what she has done there. I am impressed by her refusal of the 'bridge to nowhere' money. I am impressed by her attitude toward lobbyists. I'm sure there will be a lot more to hear about her in the next few days. I don't know when I will reach a conclusion about her, and I don't know whether it will ultimately have any bearing on my vote anyway.

p.s. on the political fu in your post: you may find Master asim's LJ a useful source; he posts a variety of links and whatnot, and is very much committed to folks making up their own minds (rather than digesting media soundbites).

I'm of the opinion that I have no clue whom to vote for. The one thing that I do like is that no matter what this election will have an outcome like no other before. Either a black guy and a white guy will win or a white guy and a white woman will win the race. The two white men boundary has been crossed. I like that. I’m looking at the platforms now and the voting records of those running. If I can still stand one side more then the other after I’m done with that, then I’ll vote.
