Belgrade (Beograd) is the capital of Serbia, having about 1,6 million inhabitants. It is located in the south-east of Europe, in the Balkan Peninsula, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe and since ancient times it has been an important traffic focal point, an intersection of the roads of Eastern and Western Europe.
Belgrade is the capital of Serbian culture, education, science and economy. As a result of its tumultuous history, many nations live in Belgrade for centuries, and the majority of the population make Serbs (86%) of Orthodox persuasion. The official language is Serbian, while foreigners are recommended to use English in communication.
And let me say that if you do accept this (instead of using it as leverage for more pay from your current job), moving to Europe does NOT excuse you from attending Dragon*Con yearly.
Speaking of Dragon*con I still haven't seen the pics she said she would post. I may have tripped her in a fight to get to the elevator, but without the pics I have no idea what she looks like!!!
Are you gonna consider the job? Sounds interesting, probably lots of good stories if/when when you come back. You may "Go Native" and never want to leave.
I'm debating...a lot depends on whether or not they meet my offer and if I'll have a job when I get back - this is a 5 week deal they're talking about.
I had a friend who took a 2 week job in the former Soviet Republic of Armenia (this was 1996 or so) and while it was a bit of hardship he dosen't regret it. But then again he was an independant contractor so it would not have affected his job afterwards. The State Department warning brief was to not take any elevators as power outages were common. Don't drink the water, etc. He brushed his teeth with Toothpaste and Sprite soda. And he packed his own toilet paper for the trip. But he didn't regret it for a minute.
And you WILL be at Dragon.....I'll pick you up at the airport. In a Taxi, 'cause i refuse to deal with Atlanta Airport-type traffic. Sprungburg is nutz enough.
