Wow, that's really cool! I had no idea something like that was possible. I wonder if that would work for my grandfather? He's a little older than she is, by a year or so, but I know that he's too old for the traditional type of heart surgery, he most likely wouldn't survive it.
Quite possibly. If you're interested, this site has the entrance criteria and all of the trial sites listed. In his case, I'd probably suggest Stanford - they are a great center. Alternatively, Cedars-Sinai in LA.
Great! I've passed that link on to my Dad. He said he'd heard of the trials being done in Boston, but I think he'll be happy to know that there are locations closer to my grandfather.
My grandfather is feeling well enough now that he and his wife are going on a Hawaiian cruise, which means a flight down to LA. He's nervous of flying for longer, so the Stanford location would be great, though LA could work too.
My Dad said he'll talk to my grandfather to see if he's interested in looking into it further after they get back from Hawaii.
Oh, and thanks. I know you suggested this before, but my grandfather had been in such rocky health until late last year. He used to be so active, it's sad to see him only be able to walk a few yards before needing to sit and catch his breath. Even if he doesn't qualify that looks truly awesome, I'm sure it will give lots of people hope.
