Sweeney Todd-spoiler alert
Many things I didn't care for, mostly the voice casting. Helena Bonham Carter--too breathy and not enough support. I think, at least for me, Angela Lansbury owns the role of Mrs. Lovett, and it's hard to see someone else playing it. Mall of America 2007
The kids at the Mall were WONDERFUL!! They sang better than I have ever heard them. Amazing what some adrenaline and a good sound tech can do. Again, about 1/3 of my students had not been to the Mall of America, though all of them had been to a shopping mall before. Come to the Mall of America
On Monday, December 17th at noon at Sears Court to hear my school choir perform. We are singing familiar songs, songs representative of the major ethnic groups of the school, and pop Christmas songs including "Sleigh Ride" in honor of the 100th anniversary of Leroy Anderson's birth. -
Vacations
So it seems that going on vacation gets one thinking about vacations. Last year, I made S a deal that for her fifteenth birthday, I would take her anywhere she wanted to go, and last Christmas, we went to NYC. We finally made it to Disney World
So here's my Disney story. In 1973, my family took a vacation. This was a big deal for us, since my dad was a farmer and an electrician; he took his two weeks vacation in the spring and fall, one week to plant crops, one week to harvest. Back from the San Jose Orff-Schulwerk Conference
What an amazing conference. Worth everything it took to get there. I've never attended a conference before where absolutely every session applied to me, and I had difficulty deciding what to attend. Korobushka
I taught the "Korobushka" (SCA version) to my 7-8 classes last week. None of them gave me more than passing grief about dancing with a person of the opposite gender. It was really fun. This week we do "Troika." All this to make cross curricular connections to social studies, where they are studying the Russian Revolution.
