First off, thanks to everyone for their lovely birthday greetings! You sure know how to make a gal feel loved!

I just dropped off my kid for her first day of class in first grade. I have a first grader. Amazing. Makes me feel all sorts of things I can't process yet. Once I get the words formulated, I'll post about it. But for right now, all I can ( Read more... )

That's amazing about your daughter! and happy birthday :)

I'd recommend Beverly Cleary's books... "Ramona Quimby, Age 8" and "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" were some of my favorites. Maybe the Babysitter's Club or something? Nancy Drew?

They might be a little advanced but it sure looks like she's accelerating fast. I can't wait for my niece to be that age.

In a couple of years, get a bunch of Gary Paulsen's books -- "Hatchet," "Brian's Winter." I devoured them.

This book looks awesome! Plus, the researcher in me loves the NIMH reference.
Amazon pegs this book as for ages 9 to 12, so it might be a bit too much for her. But I would love for her to try to read this soon!
I'll get the Ramona books for her to see if she can handle it (it's rated for kids between 8-12). I definitely prefer these books over those Junie B. Jones books. I saw the reviews they had on Amazon for the Junie books. I'm not the only mom that thinks these books aren't good.
Thanks for the recommendations! :-)

Oh yeah! I even remember the cartoon based on this series. Kenzie and I loved watching it!
I'll look at the book in the lib though. Again, Amazon pegs it for the 9-12 year old crowd. I'll see if the kiddo can handle it.

That's so wonderful about your daughter. I was the exact same way when I was little. I read anything & everything, including books that were way too old for me haha.

Anyway, I LOVED "The Phantom Tollbooth" & all of the "Harriet the Spy" books. The Rahl Dahl stuff might be a bit much for her at this age, but maybe not. I will try to think of more...;-)
