They never fought before, not over anything that mattered. It started with a sullen comment then escalated into a screaming row which ended with them both tumbling into the frigid water beneath the dock. Nathan leaves, looking like a drowned puppy, and Duke take his girl out onto the looming night horizon.

The next day Duke was dragged into the station, hands cuffed, and booked with some petty crime neither of them even remembers a year down the road.

Nathan doesn’t bother to look up from where he’s sitting behind his father’s desk.

They don’t talk for the next decade.

Things were rough at the start. He got all the shit jobs, making the coffee, organizing papers, staying late. It wasn't hard to grow bitter. But once you joined there was no getting out - not really. He couldn’t have a life after this, even if Jack spiked his drink.

It was easier though, when things really began.

After Jack cornered him in his office after everyone had left one evening. Ianto hadn’t expected it, or what he had expected was not this. Not lips and tongue and hands, god hands every where. Not groaning and biting kisses. Not this.

He’s not sure exactly how it happens, how they mesh together so well, when they move from friends to best friends, when he falls for her, but it happens. It’s as if something in him changes, because suddenly he’s not thinking about the girl from his flashforward, he’s thinking about something new--someone new. He’s not exactly sure when he crosses the threshold of the future into the present, of the here and now, where Nicole is and Keiko is not. And when he kisses her, it’s like he chooses to start living now, in what time he still has.

There once was a cute man named Daniel Faraday. He was having trouble remembering things ever since an experiment had gone horribly wrong. But today he was getting on a freighter to go to an island. A magic island that might be able to heal him! He was told of the island's magic powers by his mother and Mr. Widmore. He missed his rats and his job at Oxford and hoped ever so much that he would be healed. He got on the freighter, and saw a lovely red head. He said hello. She said hello. He felt better already!
