June Musings

Where did June go!  Ha!  We have been enjoying a relatively cool summer so far.  Mid 70's to mid 80's and even some rain.  It stayed green for a lot longer than it usually does, which I love!  Now we're in to mid to upper 90's.  Yikes!  Not my favorite, but it is summer.

That’s quite an update. Lots and lots of things going on. I love reading about the trails. I love Poppet.

I hope there are videos, especially of 4H agility! Go William and Noodle.

And I have no idea why a mama sheep wouldn't want to play with the dogs.....

No video of the sheep dog trial, but will definitely try and get video of the agility.

Some of them are more protective for sure.

Sounds like a fun summer so far! ASCA trials are kind of weird. I went to one trial with Slider a very long time ago. Slider had a beautiful, quiet run and controlled his sheep while being far off of them, and they didn't like that one, they wanted to see more action. So, on our second run I left him on his feet more and it was more of a rodeo and we scored much higher. We did not continue trialing in ASCA, just not my thing to work sheep like they wanted them worked. ;-)

I hear ya on the ASCA trials! The weird thing is the judges said they would judge the different breeds differently. So, while I was working with the other judge I asked and he said he'd expect a Border Collie to stop more and be less flowing than an Aussie. They said that, but I don't think they judged that way. Oh well. I am considering going back because they have a class called post advanced that is out in a big field and is more like the drive and cross drive that we see in USBCHA. There is no fetch, but I do need work drive away and cross drive. Since it's ASCA I can walk out half way and help, if needed. I'm pretty sure I can run that FEO. I need more work on the mental management too and it was a chance to go work in a trial environment.

Yes, when you have limited trialing opportunities, then you can use the ASCA trials for your own reasons. Good idea!

You might try AHBA. I really like it and the courses are more interesting and challenging. And they reward appropriate work!

Your summer sounds awesome so far!

I'll look into AHBA. There are a couple arena trials this summer. The Western and Eastern Idaho fairs have them.

Now summer is blistering HOT! Yikes!
