To Spay or Not to Spay

We survived Beckit's first heat.  Rooster did loose his head for a few days and that was hard.  Slutty Beckit, wasn't much better.  I'm really leaning towards spaying her though.  Since she came in now, she should go back into heat around May/June.  That's prime do stuff with your dog time!  It would be hard to take her and Rooster to trials in the ( Read more... )

She sure looks pretty. I'd hate to have to put my dog up for weeks at a time.

I think she's pretty too. I agree! I've had spayed females, no problem. This is my first experience with an intact female, which would have been easier if I didn't also have an intact male. That said, I don't know if it'd be worth the trouble no matter what!

I've never wanted to be a breeder so my girls have always been spayed and perfect. The uncertainties involved with seasons would be hard.

I had Poppet spayed around nine months and no regrets! I was thinking I might want to breed Beckit some day, but after going through it, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle, especially with an intact male in the house. When I'm ready for a young dog again, maybe someone will be interested in breeding to Rooster, or I'll have another nice dog fall into my lap:)
