[Merlin's sitting at the foot of a bed, a large laundry basket beside him. The actual laundry is folded beside it so that the basket can instead hold a duck - one of Freya's, looked after by him until she's able to do it herself

[Ax states this with certainty, then reconsiders, given his circumstances.]
At least, it does not exist in my world.
As for monsters, mon-ster-zuh, the worst, worr-stuh, I have known is not evil so much for his form, but for what he has done. One can be born, born-nuh, with natural weapons that appear frightening-ing, but it is what one does with them that matt, matters.

I have not encountered them. I have been told my usual form is something like a scorpion, scor-pi-on. Perhaps it is the tail. But I do not think I am frightening-ing.
Where is it that you come from? You seem quite, kwi-tuh, comfortable with technology now.

I have not heard of a planet called Camelot, kam-eh-lott.
And I do not have more than one, but something-ing about this place has changed the rules that usually apply. It is probably fuh, fallacious to attribute desires to it, but still, I feel it wants me to appear human.

My name is Aximili. Most people, peep-ull, call me Ax.
I left my home because... [A short laugh, more self-deprecating than anything else.] I wished, wish-duh, to be a great hero like my brother. It has not worked out the way I ex, expected.

I unn, understand that. I have to stay hidden from my enemies on Earth, and my human-- [It is a lapse, but it does not matter, not after he has already admitted he is not human.] --my friends cannot let it be known what powers they have.
[Merlin's words echo Verity's, and Ax is still skeptical, but it does seem to be the case that the people here are not usually ordinary.]
It is possible that I will go on to do things, ings, I cannot yet imagine. I hope this is true.
What are your abilities, tees, if you do not mind my asking-ing?

I agree. It isn't what you are that makes you a monster. We can't always help that. It's what you do.
Is there really no magic where you're from?

What are serr-kets and cat thing, thing-ees?
Reply
[Among other reasons.]
Serkets are like giant scorpions. Do you have those?

Well, I wouldn't say I'm comfortable exactly. But I'm a few months removed from Camelot. Oh, that's where I'm from.

That tends to happen here. It's the magic of this place. But...you say that it wants you to appear human. What are you if not human?

And I am an alien.

[So far he's met shinigami and demon hunters and gods, but this is the first time for...]
Alien?

Which mean-zuh that I have some idea how humans can react to things, ings, with which they are unfamiliar.

[That much, Merlin can understand.]
Why did you leave your home?
By the way, I'm Merlin

How are you diff, different?
Reply
[He says the name pleasantly, like a greeting.]
I'm sure you have a very important destiny all your own.
[Merlin draws a breath.]
I was born different. With...gifts, I suppose. But I can't let anyone know that I have them there.

[Their situations sound pretty similar, actually. Merlin hesitates for only a moment before continuing.]
I'm not sure you'll believe me, but...I have magic.
