I have so been there.

The only thing I can tell you is this: the despair does go away, one way or another. I never would have believed it, not really, so I understand if you're skeptical. But it really and truly does, no matter what course you end up taking.

Five-week periods should be illegal, though. Ick. You poor thing.

Thank you so much, Plin. It's actually very comforting to hear from friends who have gone through/are going through similar situations. Not to say that I would wish this on my friends, but it's comforting that I'm not alone, you know? And to know there will be a light at the end of this tunnel, regardless of what happens, does make this a bit easier to bear.

Except for the five-week period thing. Not a whole lot is making that easier to bear. heh.

Five weeks does seem insanely excessive, unless your uterus is the size of a minivan. I have the same issue and have never had a period that long.

I am going through infertility treatment right now and I sympathize with the feelings of worthlessness. I'm sorry, Shel. I'm looking forward to hearing about your adoption plans.

Apparently my uterus is the size of an Escalade (which matches the size of the rest of me, gah).

I'm crossing my fingers for your fertility treatments, Mel. If you need/want to talk, I'm here for you, girlie.

Thanks, Dreama. The good wishes and kind thoughts of everyone are definitely going a long way in helping me along!

That is so terrible. I hope they (doctors? experts?) really are looking at all the issues... I had excessive uterine bleeding when I was in my late teens and, while it straightened itself out, it was still frustrating to hear that there wasn't much of a physical cause of it.

I wish you luck with whatever move toward children you two end up making. You'll be awesome parents, that's no doubt.

Yeah, I'm waiting for my doctors to start sacrificing goats in the corner and looking to the entrails for answers at this point. I'm thinking it would be about a 50/50 proposition for coming up with a reason for all of this.

We'll take all the luck we can get! And we're both very humbled by your confidence in our prospective parenting skills.

Just make sure there are no unattended children wandering around Portland next month. I can't promise that I wouldn't smuggle a kid back with us.
