Preserving
I got on a crazy preserving kick the last few weeks. Of course it's the time for it. Our peppers were in full swing, my tomatoes were laden with more ripe fruit than I could handle. And I had this idea that I would can something. But we'll get to that ( Read more... ) -
Black Pepper Chicken with Mango
An actual recipe! It turned out pretty good, and the cashews were delicious. I had a hard time not snacking on them while I was cooking the chicken.
The only variations I made this time were to use ground chipotle pepper instead of cayenne, use coconut oil instead of olive, because my olive oil has a weird flavor that I am not enjoying, and use ( Read more... ) -
Food
So, food: I've been cooking it. We are on a self-imposed challenge not to go out to eat until our vacation at the end of the month. I am also on a (also self-imposed) no dairy/sugar/grains/legumes trial, in an effort to fix some minor health issues and maybe aid in weight loss. I've been feeling bad pretty much since Jasper was born (maybe even before) that I didn't document it all better. I have notes here and there, and FB posts, and a few journal entries, but then my web server died and it wasn't really priority 1 with an infant in the house. HD FB OMG
We got a Sony HandyCam for Christmas. We traded it in for the HD version, because we are picky like that. So now everything is going on YouTube. I'm trying not to be too insane about it, but Jasper is doing such cute stuff lately. It's hard to resist. Witness:

My meatloaf (not really a recipe)
Emender Poige requested my meatloaf recipe on Facebook tonight, only I don't really cook with recipes. Still, the one I made tonight was pretty much the best meatloaf toph and I have ever eaten, so I will attempt to recreate what I did here.
1.5 lbs extra lean ground beef

Arsenal
Most night Jasper is fairly tractable about bedtime. I nurse him, he goes off to bed with his dad after some trotting back and forth to kiss me and close doors -- it's a complicated but short routine. Then some songs and some walking and soothing, and he's out.

feeling festive
It is Friday and I am (in theory at least) on vacation for the next two weeks, and I've just had a lovely little drink, and toph took the kid with him to bring back more booze and Thai food. Helping hands
Jasper is 14 months old today. I have been writing down all of his words on a list (thanks Google docs), but I haven't really gathered up all the things he is doing lately, so I thought I'd put some of them down. the end of the day bits and pieces
After an extremely long work day yesterday, I had a mellower day today that still included rushing around to an appointment in rush hour and then dinner at my mom's, sort of an early Christmas celebration with my little brothers and sister and all the kids.
