Once I did the financially responsible thing and got a PC laptop after more than a decade on a Mac. I dealt with it ok - it was mostly a means to an end. And then, exactly 1 year, 3 days after I purchased it, the motherboard went out. I was stuck on a Linux netbook until my new MBP came in. Sure, the MBP was twice as much as the PC but I'm also fairly certain it'll last longer than 1 year and 3 days.

Also, it looks cooler.

Also also, no flying dicks.

So godspeed, good luck, and buy a SquareTrade warranty.

You got a crappy mobo. Happens all the time, on both sides of the cult.

I have 6 year old laptops kicking around that still work as good as the day I bought them. 10 year old desktops too.

I was a IIe junkie in high school as well - Wizardry, Pool of Radiance on a monochrome monitor, Duo floppy drives . . . my wife dragged me kicking and screaming to the Dark Side and, well, it's not so bad. Just don't tell her I said so.

I died more times in POLICE QUEST from blowing my own leg off (I kept forgetting to type 'DRAW GUN' before typing 'FIRE GUN') then from criminal activity. I wonder if this is a real reflection of police casualty figures?

Police Quest was amazing in that regard. The game was less forgiving than a prison camp.
