What Poetry Features Cost: An Addendum

After the polemic I posted the other day about paying poets I have received requests for a follow-up in some areas, specifically what costs a poet might accrue to fulfill feature requests. Not to mention that an organizer is using a feature to create a show for their audience bringing experience and talent and fresh perspective. Ok, there are many "mind yous" and "not to mentions." but this one is one I think about. I know that I've been at events with 100 show makers in the room and thought this show is going to be great, one way or another because of all that expertise.

I dunno, Scott... at most shows, what the venue pays is nominal compared to the amount to be made selling books CDs, or whatever else yr peddling. The venue host delivers to the poet an audience who, if it's a good match, wants to buy her or his work, and that tends to be worth far more than the apparent pay for the gig.
