Reformed Ocean Snob

Okay, I admit it...I was an ocean snob. I did not believe that a lake cold capture my heart the way the ocean does. This weekend Dre took me out to Kalamazoo to see some friends and to celebrate Deats' B-day. Deats is my Michigan Doppelganger. We happily packed up the pup, who is growing every moment, and went out to party. O'Malley met Radar ( Read more... )

You can thank the conservationists and environmentalists for that one :D For a period in the late 70's and early 80's these lakes were seriously disgusting. There was even medical waste such as hypodermic needles floating in the water and washed ashore. But a lot of serious time, money and effort by a lot of good people have gone into bringing these lakes back to shape... unfortunately, a lot of that funding is getting cut back drastically and a lot of the restrictions that were put in place are getting repealed in the interest of encouraging tourism, so let's just hope things don't make a severe backslide.

I am still an ocean snob, but I'll admit that I've never been to one of the Great Lakes. I'll try to keep an open mind about my oceanic snobbery, and if I ever get a chance to enjoy one of the Great Lakes, I'll definitely give it a shot.

You will.....Dre and I may get married on Lake Michigan! And for the record, I was a HORRIBLE snob about the ocean and I was SURE that I would remain that way, but one look and I was amazed. We were on the west side of Michigan and you can not see across the lake from where we were.

NICE!!! Yeah, Lake Michigan sounds wonderful the way you describe it. I may be recanting my perspective on this matter as well.

Heh. I grew up spending time on Lake Michigan. I was 16 before I'd seen the Atlantic. Surprisingly (?), I was less impressed than I should have been.

:D
