Thanks for this! Though, to be honest, and this is a compliment, a lot of these definitions are reasonably clear from the way they are raised and addressed in the third chapter i.e. I didn't need this glossary to comprehend them, however it does flesh a few of the terms out a little bit and will hopefully serve as a useful reference for future chapters. I, of course, love the notion of a universe wide internet in the 'merchant boards' and I just realised the fandom and Krycek-specific significance of the 'black oil'! :D
I'm replying in reverse order (as always!) but, let me thank you for reading and commenting on it all!
re: the glossary. I started it once I finished writing 'enters Krycek' and realized I wasn't writing short scenes, but basically bits and pieces of a wider story; in short, I wrote it mostly for myself because as I write I invent freely, but as you said, it's useful to have a reference point for future writing and making connections in future scenes. Also it makes the whole 'verse more 'real' to me and has a sort of 'at a glance' effect: do all of these details fit together? And so on. I just realized, for example, that I didn't put the characters name in it, only a couple *headdesks* *G* Will do asap. And, it's fun to do world-building this way. :D
I had fun putting in the Xfiles references, yes. Poor Krycek, can't escape the Oilen, can he? ;)
Before I forget, if you enjoy stories written in a wider structure but not exactly linear, disanddat has collected such stories in the Nexus 'verse (I contributed a few stories as well, we love
( ... )
I need these in a tidy little list if I'm going to try another peace in your 'verse. I started that comm conversation that I mentioned, but John was trying to jab at Alex about Alex's sister... umm, yeah, WTF... and I'm hesitant to add characters to something you created.
Maybe I'll take another whack at it now I've put something up on Nexus.
Add anything/anyone you like, I'll work with it, no problem *G*
One thing you need to know is that John definitely HAS some leverage on Krycek of which they don't speak, but it's there: Krycek owes him, and John has used that in the past, can/will use it again. Just a vague idea in my head, I'll let you know the details as soon as it is a bit more consistent.
And, the update to the glossary with all the bits from the two other pieces (yours and my first one) should up tomorrow. *crosses fingers* ohbtw, this is a sticky post, postdated, so it'll stay up at the top always. :)
Comm conversation, YAY! *GGG* *barks and jumps at your ankles*
Okay... can I throw my idea at you? I was thinking of stealing the much younger sister idea from Mulder and giving it to Krycek instead. I can't see any situation in 'this version' of Krycek's life where he would be beholding to John for help, so maybe he's beholding to John for the help John gave to one of the few people Alex actually cares about... a last remaining member of his family or some dearly beloved.
If you want to give me a hint on what you think John's leverage is... I think I need that info to make a Krycek-John interaction that works.
email incoming! :D (and yes, I'm forcing myself to vary my icon use, though I still need screamers verse iconses, and I wanted to put more pups into this 'characters' one, but it's SOOO small...)
