Overall thoughts/Leitmotif: UMM I occasionally looked into plots for some of my stories in addition to the nonstop banter. Also, sustained writing, like all the 10K+ fics -- any of those I wrote last year are clearly THIS IS THE FIRST STORY and THIS IS THE CONCLUSION, where I think... less of that happened this year? Cohesion in long fics, that's the phrase I was looking for! I'm really proud, overall, of my writing this past year.
My best story of this year: I'd have to go with House of Amanda. Like, damn. What was I smoking that week, because it worked. Also, The Pet of the Magi -- came out of nowhere in the middle of the night over xmas break and I'm surprised at how not-awful it is.
My favourite story of this year: Zach in the City. A) gave me a chance to experiment with my new black horse secret fave pairing, B) just strangely satisfying to write? C) surprised me because I went into it not knowing how it would end D) confused a LOT of people, apparently?! E) I don't care, it's my baby, dammit.
Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: The No-Win Scenario, or, the Academy years from Uhura's POV. Like, was it the timing (near U.S. Thanksgiving)? Was it because it's Uhura? Spock/Uhura? Because there's no Kirk/Spock and that's why most of you are here? idk, idk, Uhura gets no love.
Most popular story: The Cleverness of Me has the most saves on delicious; Dexterity has the most hits on the AO3 (not counting the whole Dr. Princess series); my first H50 fic, Jersey City, New Jersey also blew the fuck up.
Story with the single sexiest moment: So, FOR SOME TWISTED REASON, I think the end of Five Unusable Interviews in the pool is kind of hot:
"You're the best," Zach said as he heaved himself onto Chris, so Chris went from bobbing happily in the pool to being completely covered in Zach -- Zach's chest wet and pressed against his own, Zach's legs around his waist, Zach's arms around his neck, Zach's mouth on his mouth, Zach's tongue moving across Chris's lips and pushing its way inside his mouth, even Zach's eyelashes brushing against Chris's as he shut his eyes.
They sank together to the bottom and Chris really wondered if Mamma Mia could top this shit -- it had an all-star cast and feel-good music, but lacked Zach's tongue in his mouth.
They rose up to the surface again and gasped for air, Zach still latched on to Chris and pressing his forehead against Chris's.
"So, I'll see Mamma Mia, if you still want to," Chris said as he exhaled and chilled Zach's skin.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: ALL OF JANUARY. EVEN NOW, I CANNOT EXPLAIN THAT.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: TWAIN. TL;DR: So I finished my course work for grad school in December '09 -- sorry, I barely finished my course work while leupagus and I were writing Dr. Princess Whitelaw. I made no secret of it at the time -- there were big chunks where I was just using Chris to deal with the clusterfuck my "professional" life had become. Anyway, I started TWAIN weeks after I submitted my thesis this spring and was, for all intents and purposes, DONE with grad school. We went through so many fucking drafts because I realized I was writing Chris with some kind of professional PTSD, and he was too genuinely, troublingly crazy for our fluffy little world, having barely scraped out of Hollywood/the career path he loathed intact. (PROJECTING MUCH?) SO, y'all got the blow up fight of the ages in TWAIN, and I got to keep Dealing With It. (I'm better now! :D A little! :D Seriously, I wrote this to get it out of my system, my university fired at least 75% of its freshman comp adjuncts last month, and I stopped giving a fuck! :D)
Hardest story to write/Biggest Disappointment: Our First Christmas. BECAUSE I AM A FUCKING GRINCH, and Christmas will not be celebrated in the future, so why the fuck did I sign up for an ADVENT CHALLENGE? Not happy with it, but I'm glad people seem to like it.
Favorite OC: Lerea from The Electric Cat Planet. The Vulcans in that fic, particularly her, gave me the chance to explore what being Vulcan meant to Vulcans who weren't the only human-Vulcan hybrids in existence, and who weren't raised as an ambassador's son. Basically: dat Vulcan sass. And she was going out with McCoy, dude, come on. Bitch knew what was what.
Biggest Surprise: Oscar Night. It started out as a few scenes I abandoned, but once leupagus learned of its existence and read it, she demanded I finish it or she'd murder meeeeeeeee. And then it turned into its own thing and I love it.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Hahahaha, TWAIN for the tl;dr reasons above. Zach in the City because pretty much every event in there was documented in a tweet or gossip blog or event post and actually happened, the horror, so it's the most unintentionally telling because I'm a fucking creeper who has too many notes on Zquints' movements in NYC this spring.
2011 Ambitions: ANY of the 4-5 really long AU ideas I have and put off forever because writing anything of that length is terrifying. Also, as I told withthepilot and it made her let out an uncharacteristic squee -- some Kirk/McCoy. (WHAT DO I DO WITH SPOCK, GUYS?)
Top 5 Scenes from Anywhere I Would Choose to Have Illustrated: I have been so so so lucky to get fucking art this year, so here's a quick review of the amazing shit people have been wonderful enough to make based on scenes from my stuff! I can't draw or manip for shit, so I weep amazed tears whenever anyone takes the time to fucking illustrate my shit, wow. (AND IF I MISSED SOMETHING JFC LET ME KNOW. Author is fucking fried at the completion of this meme.)
