My wife and I will be in said city soon[0]. Where should we go? We have 7/2 days to experience the city and area, as well as 4 nights. We will technically be staying in Lynnwood ( Read more... )

I would highly recommend giving Anthony's Home Port a visit for the seafood. If you'll be in town for a Sunday evening, they do an all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab legs thing then. I am sure many of our mutual friends would be happy to take you there. It's a shame we'll be out of town. You'll be so close to our home, too!

tekman and I went on a ferry trip to San Juan Island many summers ago. I remember it being an enjoyable trip. It'd be a bit of a drive, and not quite to the ocean. IIRC, we drove up to Anacortes, WA, and took the ferry from there. I don't think the drive could have been more than 2 hours.

All-you-can-eat crab is good. But the reservation should be made for about 5:00. Going there when there is little or no crab is very disappointing.

I have to give a plug to Chinatown, as you grew up in Indiana. If you like music, particularly Jimi Hendrix type music, the EMP isn't a bad museum to visit and it's right by the space needle. Mt Rainier is a day trip away, if you like mountains. Definitely recommend driving around outside the city - the area is quite beautiful.

I've been to Chinatown's in other major cities (such as San Fransisco). Do you know how it would compare?

Hmm... I've only been to SF's Chinatown once and we went to one restaurant there - not really enough to compare. It depends on what you go for - we never look at the touristy shops, we really just go for the food. The Chinatown in Seattle is pretty big, and there are some excellent restaurants there, so if you want some food, I would recommend it. And, you know, if you just want to feel tall...

I'll pass on the tall part, I feel huge most of the time as it is. Might be fun to visit and eat, though.

Not related to food, as I don't recall eating in Seattle when I was out there, if you can find the time to head South, a visit to Mt. St. Helens is worth it.

It been quite a few years since I was there but if you are into history, check out the "underground tour of the city". It's the part of the old city before the great fire. You can check with a visitors center for info. Have fun. Mt. St. Helens is great and so is Mt.Rainier, the country side and mountains are beautiful. Take lots of pics.

Yeah, if you haven't done the Underground Tour, you definitely should.
