[Evelyn is not defenseless - nor is she completely safeguarded. Her time on the Elegante has taught her this. She can hold her own in certain situations but … but not always. She can’t constantly be safe. There are always circumstances where she’ll be able to do nothing. It scares her ( Read more... )

[Evelyn knows who's going to be at the door before she even opens it. She's wrapped herself up in one of her sheets she can't let him see the scars and she looks, for lack of a better term, broken.

She opens the door a crack - presses her face to the small space (she has to double-check even if she's almost completely sure. She feels like she can't trust anyone right now), then opens it a little wider and -- just ...]

I'm suh-suh-sorry.

[She can't look at anything but her feet.]

[HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN? he wants to say. HOW COULD YOU KILL OUR CHILD? he wants to say. WHY DIDN'T YOU FIGHT BACK? he wants to say.

But no. This is his girlfriend, his love, his everything. Evelyn is here now. He has to deal with what he has now. They can make a baby any time.

Not the same one, though.

Hell.]

... Don't be.

[Evelyn's sorry. She's really sorry. She already said so, she was drugged and - this always seems to happen. She should be able to do something, she always thinks she'll be able to to do something, but ... no.

She still can't look up.]

...I should've duh-done something. I -- I shouldn't huh-huh-have even let her in.

[She pauses, silent for a few moments.]

You can cuh-come in if you want.

[And then she retreats to curl up on her bed again. ...She really hopes he follows.]

[Herz, your concern is appreciated, but as of right now, there's nothing much you can do.]

I might sw-sw-swing by l-later or something.

[Double liar. She doesn't want to leave her room. At all.]

[Hm. Evelyn wonders if Verrim knows about death on the boat yet. Does she get to be the first to explain?]

I -- died, Verrim. People on the sh-sh-ship come back when th-...they die, and. Well.

Here I am.

I'm fine.

[But she sure doesn't sound like it.]

wannaclap_cant April 13 2009, 23:16:02 UTC
[Long pause.

Verrim comes from a world of reincarnation, cycle after cycle until a soul is pure enough to enter paradise. Everyone comes back from the dead eventually, but...not usually so quickly. There have been a total of seven real resurrections in all the history he's ever read.

It's not an easy pill to swallow, that this girl died and just as quickly came back, but he's able to push back the confusion and curiosity for now--Evie does NOT sound fine, there's no way he's going to bother her with questions about that just yet. Later.]

You're not fine, Lady Evelyn, it doesn't take a Seer to notice that. Is there anything I can do? Are you hurt? I...can't cast a very good healing spell but I could at least try to help if you're hurt...

I - ... I'm not huh-hurt, exactly. I have s-s-scars, but.

[A soft sigh. This is so much more painful than she thinks she can deal with.]

I'm just. Kuh-kind of sad.

[Understatement of the century.]

[There were things Mimmi never wanted to experience on the boat again. Spontaneously growing animal parts, Valentine's Day, finding a 'pooka', meeting a German soldier, wearing a bikini, St. Patrick's Day, being handcuffed, explosions, crazy fucking zombie pirates and death were all things she hoped she'd never have to live though again. Dying hadn't been fun. Getting over dying wasn't any easier. Now, after being on the boat for several months, she'd grown accustomed to the reactions of others when they came back from the dead. She could recognize the fear, the sorrow, the ache, the desperation.

She could hear it in Evie's voice. ...And then she found a pair of jeans in the hallway. The obviousness was obvious]

Evie... are you doing alright?

[She really needed to stop asking that question]

I... I found pants in the hall. I believe they are yours.

[Evelyn knows it's not hard to read the emotions in her voice. She just -- didn't really expect this many people to care.

...Oh. Yeah. Clothes.]

I'm fuh-fine. Thank you.

...and yeah. They're probably muh-mine.

[Evie's anything but fine, but she doesn't say anything]

I... Would you like me to bring them over? ...Maybe later? Would you like some company?
