Up the steep and very narrow stairway

Weekly development of Painting #1 for my painting class. The theme is "Vanitas versus Indulgence." Essentially, it should focus on death, greed, or both. Done in oil pants on canvas, stretched over a stretcher I build myself (and wished I hadn't). The pictures are craptacular, but what can you do.

Your painting has gotten like WOAH since I last saw anything. XD

The objects are really well done, but it's the background that's captivating, for me at least.

Yeah, that's what everyone says (but our teacher says we're not allowed to call that a "background." He gets tiny heart attacks. It's "negative space").
