Glee and WTF?

I was between cases at noon, waiting for preop to get my patient ready, and ducked into the lounge to watch some of the inauguration. Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and a clarinetist and a pianist I didn't recognize were making beautiful music in the freezing temps. Yo-Yo Ma wasn't even wearing an overcoat and seemed to be having the time of his life. ( Read more... )

Well, my taxes are upwards of 40%, which means that, out of my 60 hour work week, I spend about 25 of them paying the federal government. Personally, I think that's plenty.

That clarinetist was probably the best I have ever, EVER heard. He was just utterly fantastic.

I think what you heard was John Williams ripping off Aaron Copland ripping off the Shakers. :) It's an old hymn.

ACTUALLY! It was Mr. Chief Justice who flubbed it. If you listen, he got it wrong. He left out the word 'faithfully' and then added it back in the wrong place.

But ... I mean ... you're the Chief Justice, swearing in the new president and EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER are watching ... it's amazing he could even get it all out even if it was out of order.

You know what though? I'm just so freakin' excited that so many people are excited about this incredible process. Apathy is dangerous to democracy so I'm thrilled that people are so involved in this whole thing!

Yes, I know it was the CJ who screwed up. But he made the President look bad and I'm still pissed.

so ... I'm such a pathetic West Wing fan that when you said, CJ, I was like, "wtf was CJ Cregg doing swearing the Pres in? Isn't that the Chief Justice's job?"

CJ Cregg swearing in President Obama would have been the coolest thing ever! Rats! I think I just got rid of my CJ icon, too, damnit! This is the only one I've got in my icons right now. *points* I have such a nice CJ one, too! *woe* *bad timing*

Yeah, Mr. Chief Justice looked pretty dorktastic, and not in the good geeky way. *g*

I was thinking sheesh, how many times did you guys practice this? Cos really. But the Pres handled it pretty smoothly. \o/

I was rather impressed by Dianne Feinstein, who I think represented my state rather well (but whose name I probably just misspelled. Whoops.) - and yeah, the music kicked ass all over the place. Aretha and the quartet and the national anthem at the end... I dug Aretha's hat in a biiiiiig way. :D

I missed Aretha. *sob* Our charge nurse saw her while at lunch and gushed. I'm sure I'll be able to catch it somewhere but it's not the same. Why can't they do this on a Sunday when most people don't have to work??

If you have C-SPAN, they're replaying the inauguration right now (at least on the left coast)... or I bet there will be clips up on YouTube, if they aren't already. :D

She looked fabulous, and sounded even better.

I hate you. ;P

Yeah, I'm sure it will be on You Tube in a day or two.

It's still not the same.
