Re: Why are flamingos pink?scypresMarch 19 2007, 01:10:35 UTC
Oh... very true. But that still doesn't explain those of us who were born here!
(... and flamingos are only pink if they have a certain diet- including shrimp, I believe. I've always thought it's a bit crazy that flamingos are associated with Florida, considering they're native to Africa.)
Yeah, well, that's America. lol We've got palm trees all over California.
Maybe it's Florida's meridians or something, ya know, Strange Vibes from The Vortex or some such. Native Californians seem pretty mellow to me. Of course, I grew up in NYC, so my 'mellow' ain't necessarily. ;)
You will appreciate why Flamingos are in Florida...same reason you have Cattle Egrets.
They were happily migrating minding their own little birdy business...and the jet stream picked em up tossed em in front of a hurricane and blew them to Florida and Texas.
No shit, I am serious.
I find it amusing that a goodly amount of that list applies to houston Texas, but you know...same general planting zone and all.

A mountain is any hill 100 feet above sea level.
I used to live near the top of what the locals called Boca mountain.
You get angry when people say "Florida isn't really part of the SOUTH"
Only said by people who never leave the Orlando theme parks or the beach.
