Ooooooooh, this is fantastic. I've not yet seen a fic address this issue with Daniel, and how fitting and right to have Sam there with him to help him through it?

Very well done.

Thanks! I feel like Season 10 Sam has come through so much guilt of her own that she's the best person to help Daniel through his. Plus, Sam/Daniel! I'm glad you liked it.

The issue of culpability is such an interesting one to wrestle with -- neat that you chose that. I love their last exchange -- it sounds so Them -- and the way the bleakness resolves into a reminder that no matter how weary they are and how hopeless it seems, they're in it together. The long guilt-struggling night becoming morning for them, if not for the world they're leaving behind. The title's just right imo!

Wow, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks! And I always worry about ending up with a totally overblown title, so I'm glad you thought that worked too.

Oh, WOW.

That aspect of culpability is one of the things I hate most about S9-10. It's too cruel a burden to lay on Daniel, after everything else he's been through. And I love the way his brain runs away from him here - starting with dry anthropological observation and spinning faster and faster, until it all comes crashing down on him.

...And Sam is there to catch him when he falls. Beautiful.

Oh, and I loved this: That’s Daniel, she reminds herself. Sometimes he’s the sweetest guy imaginable. Other times, he’s about as sensitive as a sack of bricks to the head, and there’s no telling from moment to moment which it’s going to be. Because that is my own personal definition for Daniel, and you put it so perfectly!

Lovely, powerful fic. Well worth the wait, I'd say.

Ooh, thanks! *blushes* I'm glad you like it, and I totally agree with you about Daniel's culpability. The poor guy, couldn't TPTB have found a better way to bring the new baddies down on the galaxy?

I thought their voices sounded very good and loved their quiet interaction in this somber time. Sam protecting Daniel from the universe and from his own self guilt--aw.

Thanks! I was a bit worried about the voices in this fic, so I'm relieved to hear they worked for you. Glad you enjoyed it!

Wow! Thank you so much for such a wonderful fic! I love it, esp. how you've delved into his character, something tptb have neglected to do of late.

Thank you!

Ooh, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I felt like I maybe strayed a bit from your original prompt, but I'm happy to hear that dealing with season 9/10 Daniel's issues made up for that. And he really should have issues by this point...

But like I said, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks!
