So, we're now planning our trip to SF. I think we're looking at 2 days in Sonoma and the rest of our time in SF. I'm wondering if day trips to Monterey and Oakland are possible. Hmm. I hate California traffic.

unabridg has also never been to Beard Papa's, so I will enjoy introducing him. And also we're going to Fenton's. My parents went to Fenton's ( Read more... )

A day trip to Monterey from SF is certainly possible, just be aware of rush hour. With good traffic it's about a 2 hour trip. Going to Oakland is easy. They'll have the Maze - which contains the overpass that burned up a week and a half ago - all good again when you're here. (It's supposed to have re-opened yesterday, but I don't know if it's all good again or not.)

I haven't been to any of Beard Papa's, Fenton's, or BR Cohn.

I never knew your parents lived here.

Hmm. If you want to see scenery, what about going down to Monterey or points south one evening, spending the night there and coming back the next day?

Hey, do you want to come down to Monterey with us? That would be fun. :)

I think our plan right now is to stay at a fairly cheap Backpackers Hostel that's near Chinatown our first night (we land at around 9:30 pm), and then head out to Sonoma first thing the next morning.

You should join us for some of these--maybe a trip to Monterey and then to Fenton's? Hehe.

And yeah, my dad was there for a while before Berlin (he was a probation officer in California!) and when he moved back with mom, they lived in Oakland for 2 years.
