Thank you for noticing!!! I take a LOT of pride in my details. Turning the stirrups is actually pretty easy. Was that a rhetorical question or do you really want me to tell you? Cause I will. :-) I'll actually freshen up the bend in the stirrup leather before showing and before shipping so that it sits just right. :-D
Well I kind of want to know, as I have a western set myself and it had the stirrups turned when I got it, and now they're kind of going back to flat against the side...I might want to fix them up before I get them out to shows again (if ever!) and knowing would really be helpful. :) so yes, LOL
What other work are you going to do w/ the saddle? Are you going to make a bridle and breastplate to match?
Okay, I just didn't want to go in to a long drawn-out description if you didn't really care how it works. ;-) What I do is wet the leather. It needs to be damp for tooling, so when I dampen the fresh-cut parts, I put the stirrup on and then twist it in to position and hold it there until it's dry. Then I re-wet it to stamp it taking care not to flatten the bend I've just made. With this set, I will genty re-wet it to re-shape the stirrup leathers before showing and before shipping it off to the new owner. What I suggest for you is to verrrrry lightly wet the under side. Take a glass of water, dip your finger in it and let the first big drip fall off. Then take the that finger, place it on the back side of the stirrup leather and hold it in position to dry. But if you get it too wet, wet through to the front, it can easily discolor your leather so be super careful

If I ever get the nerve to become a performance shower, I'm definitely calling you up! If it wasn't for the background stuff (Sharpie!) I'd swear that was a real saddle!
LOL - well you wouldn't be the first person to be fooled! Seriously though, thank you, that's a HUGE compliment. I'm actually pretty impressed myself, to have a Classic set turn out so nice. I usually only make barrel sets in Classic, I don't think I've ever made a show set in this size before, so I am really just happy as a clam.
I meant to say that in Classic scale I usually only make barrel sets - NOT that I only make barrel sets in Classic... I make plenty of barrel sets in Trad too. Wait, now I'm confusing myself, I should just stop talking now. ;-)
