The X-Files and friends

Dec 17, 2011 15:49

I was in sore need of distraction today so I started flipping through channels as I had my morning coffee. Suddenly, I see Mulder and Scully on the screen, looking incredibly young and fresh, driving into Bellefleur, Oregon on a case, and I realize I'm watching the pilot of the X-Filles on BBC. BBC had a mini-marathon: the pilot, "Deep Throat" and ( Read more... )

I hadn't even been reading M/K, just happened upon the show and it all just sorta flowed back into my head. Watching Mulder crunching those sunflower seeds with that little boy lost expression made me feel all nostalgic.

Yes! I don't even follow "Once Upon a Time" or "SPN" but I'm looking forward to seeing him.

Ah, Alex and Mulder...and "Stalled in Fargo"--wonderful story. Sigh.

I really need to revisit my XF dvds. I miss those episodes, those wonderful character dynamics.

I haven't watched the eps in years, so coming upon them like that was almost a jolt. After a few minutes, I realized how good those early eps truly were--the characters, plots, the moodiness of the settings. Just real quality stuff. And Mulder, what a quirky, one-of-a-kind guy. DD imbued him with a personality like no other.

I know what you mean *sigh*. I so miss the old times when every day there was a new story posted on Rat-B, The Basement or the lists. The lists were buzzing and alive and every so tiny aspect of Krycek was discussed. We had the Lyric Wheel, the Slashing Krycek messageboard, the monthly chats and besides amazing stories lots of artwork too. Now there's almost nothing left and that makes me sad ( ... )

I certainly agree with you for the most part, B, but I feel that a major reason that XF slash fandom isn't thriving (or even barely alive) today is because the series ended so badly. Unlike the Pros, which was 'open-ended,' CC botched up the series and left it a mess. Hard to have a thriving fandom when the character you like the most is shot in the head by another character he's often slashed with, while the lead he's usually slashed with watches like a zombie! It's a depressing fandom. Anyone new who looks at it now and sees what happened would probably run off screaming. (Kinda reminds me of Blake's 7--a big fandom for years until the ending where everybody gets massacred, with one lead killing the other.)

I think XF slash writers spent years 're-writing' the last few seasons and coming up with umpteenth alternate universes, but it seems like the steam and inspiration has run out on that now, sad to say.

How time flies. Last year Amazon had an amazing sale and I got DVD sets for the first five years of XF to replace my VHS tapes and planned rewatch. Then this entire year sped by and I never did it. I did see the most recent XF movie last month - I'd never seen it before - I won't comment on it, but it did make me nostalgic for the actual series. So, back on my to do list for the new year. What a great show in its early days.

The movies...<>. Yes, let's not mention them again. ;)

Those early seasons of XF were really, really good with the likes of writers like Darin and Glen Morgan. Even Chris Carter was a good writer in those early seasons (wish he had quit while he was ahead).

Never again. ;-)

I loved realy XF. What great stories! I'm definitely going to do the rewatch. Agreed, Chris Carter peaked early and then crashed. I wish he'd realized that fact and stopped. Just step away from the keyboard, Chris...
