1 2 3 4 5 6 Being frozen in place was an odd feeling; time continuing to move but feeling as if it had stopped. He used to think that these types of moments could only happen in the movies but here he was, Kim Ryeowook staring at a man he hadn’t seen in years with his mouth hanging open like a mental patient. Finally, when time started moving again for him and he could hear the music, Ryeowook dropped his arm from the one and only Kim Jongwoon’s.
‘Aish, he still looks good.’ He thought to himself as he unconsciously bit his lip and did a once over of the figure in front of him. Exactly the same. If Ryeowook wasn’t careful he’d get sucked right back in. Diverting his gaze to Hyun Soo, it was like splashing his face with cold water and sobered him up. Ryeowook gave his friend a look that let him know he was fine and to relax. “Long time no see, Jongwoon-shii.” They both knew that Ryeowook never called him that.
Things had changed. Ryeowook had changed. Jongwoon? The verdict was still out on that but Ryeowook wouldn’t be fooled easily into believing that the man had changed. “Care for a drink?” Jongwoon asked pointing his thumb behind him towards the bar. He was clearly ignoring the glare of daggers he was receiving from Hyun Soo. In fact, he turned his gaze onto the unwelcoming man. “You too, Hyun Soo?” Looks like he still kept his manners intact. Raising a glass, Hyun Soo said, “Got one, Yesung.” That was rude but to be expected. Hyun Soo’s personality was just like that though, whether he was mad or not. Jongwoon chuckled and nodded, brushing off the rudeness by focusing on Ryeowook again. “Sure.” Unfortunately, Ryeowook’s manners hadn’t left him either. He watched as Jongwoon turned around and cleared a path to the bar. ‘Sheesh, why does he have to be wearing those jeans. He knows those black jeans always get me.’ If it wasn’t for the tight fitting shirt that showed off Jongwoon’s shoulder blades as he moved, Ryeowook’s eyes would have been glued to his ass the whole way to the bar.
It was grating on his nerves that Jongwoon wasn’t doing anything and it still affected him. How did he come to hold such power and for so long? Well, good thing was, lust only got you so far and that was exactly what Ryeowook was feeling right now. Plain old lust, nothing more, nothing less…
Or so he was telling himself.
There was the very slightest movement deep within him and for the briefest moment but Ryeowook denied it’s existence after all… Safer…
Before Ryeowook could order, a drink was sitting in front of him. He looked at it, “You still drink the same thing right?” Came that melodic voice that had previously always called to him…Previously… He raised his eyes to meet the ones searching for his. Ryeowook reached for the glass, placing it to his lips e took a good sized swallow and set it back down. As if he was going to make this easy. He didn’t even know what ‘this’ was.
“How have you been Ryeowook-ah?” Again with that name. If Ryeowook could knock off that seductive smirk on his face, he would. “Why? You were ready to leave without a word even though you were well aware that it was me you were dancing with.” The grin only stretched wider. “You seemed to want to be left to your own devices…closed eyes and all.” Of all excuses, this one was the worst. Ryeowook almost sighed. He clearly hadn’t changed.
Shaking his head, Ryeowook laughed and took another sip of his drink. “You could say that.” No point in trying to get a real answer. Ryeowook decided to do what he normally does. “And how was that dance?” Ryeowook gave a small shake of his head, flipping his auburn hair across his brow, cocking his head to the side. Jongwoon raised one eyebrow. “I’m not sure. Might need to see a little more before I can answer that.” Ryeowook really laughed then. He downed his drink and set it down on the bar as he ran his tongue over his lips.
“And where would you like to see more” Lust. Yes, lust was the answer. Ryeowook didn’t take a step closer nor move at all. He didn’t have to. He could see the same in Jongwoon’s eyes. After all, this had never been their issue. Not at all.
Door slams. Keys rattle. Lamp shatters. Springs squeak. Moans, growls, grunts, sighs of satisfaction. Snores. Pitter patter of bare feet. Scooping up clothes. Muffled howls of pain. Soft flick of a door.
Stepping into the outside world was blinding only making Ryeowook’s head pound even more. Hyun Soo was going to be mad. He had disappeared without letting him know. If he had been with anyone else Hyun Soo wouldn’t care but Ryeowook knew he was going to be in for an earful. He stumbled over his own feet in his present hung-over state. The night he remembered, it wasn’t as if he had been that intoxicated. Though now that he was level headed, Ryeowook was wondering about his judgment. Why did he stay the whole night? His hand reached up and ruffled his hair in frustration. He was only lucky that he woke up first otherwise the morning would have been awkward.
It wasn’t long until he made it to his own apartment and the door had opened even before he got his key turned in the lock. “You did it, didn’t you?” Came the beginning of the endless chatter. “You did! One look and it’s obvious. I hope it was good. Should have stayed for breakfast, the least he could do.” Hyun Soo was ranting as he made his way to the kitchen and began making what he was just complaining about.
“No. Then we’d have the awkward, do I offer him food, should I decline or must I accept not to be rude, awkward dance. No, better to avoid that. Not to mention what would we talk about?” Ryeowook replied as he went to his room to get rid of the clothes he had been wearing for much too long. He needed a shower. Hyun Soo came in with a large glass of water. “The fuck was good. Why, yes, yes it was…Um how about no? Did you really want me to stay that long anyways?” He already knew the answer to that but Ryeowook wanted to change the topic. This would help do the trick. “Do you really have to ask? Why did you even go there in the first place?” Hyun Soo had handed over the water and was now leaning against the door frame to Ryeowook’s room. “A fuck, Hyun Soo. Just a fuck.” He said as he turned around and pulled off his shirt. “You could have done that with anyone at the club or used me. Why that bastard? The anger in his voice was unmistakable but it was laced with an undertone of disappointment.
It really bothered Ryeowook when Hyun Soo spoke like that. He may use a lot of people now but he would never use Hyun Soo even though his friend says he doesn’t mind. While Hyun Soo sees it as him not being worthy, Ryeowook knows it’s the complete opposite. It’s because Hyun Soo is much too worthy for Ryeowook to even touch. Unbuttoning his pants he looked over his shoulder, “I’m taking a shower” And then turned back around continuing with taking off his pants while waiting to hear the door close. It took a moment but his friend and roommate finally left, Ryeowook ran his hand through his hair and sighed. What a great start to the morning.
Kim Jongwoon awoke to an empty bed. He looked over to the left side to confirm what he already knew. Rubbing a hand over his face, Jongwoon looked back up at the ceiling and laid there for a moment. Then he kicked off the covers and walked to the bathroom to shower. Something the two should have the night before. Once he was all cleaned up, off came the sheets, tossed into the laundry bin. His phone rang, just a text. Jongwoon picked it up and then frowned when he saw the contents of the message. It was his mom. Not what he had been looking for in the slightest. He tossed his phone on the bed and went into the kitchen to make a pot of coffee and some toast. He never was a big breakfast eater but he couldn’t deny that he had been half hoping for Ryeowook’s cooking. It clearly wasn’t here, not even a note, nor a text. Jongwoon hadn’t expected this to happen in a million years. The Ryeowook he knew wasn’t like that. “He’ll call later.” He grumbled to himself as he took a bite out of the dry toast he hadn’t even put any butter on. Reassuring himself wasn’t something he did. He didn’t have to but this was Ryeowook.
A week passed and still no call. Jongwoon knew the other man had his number. That had been established that night. He hadn’t meant to meet Ryeowook that night but as soon as he had spotted the man there was no way he could turn back. His feet wouldn’t let him. Jongwoon also knew that he didn’t really want to. Ryeowook looked more confident than he used to, that was intriguing. Not so intriguing anymore though, Jongwoon was annoyed. At work his employees avoided him at all costs unless they wanted to get snapped at.
“Ryeowook-shii?” A head turned and brown eyes connected with a colleagues. “Soo In-shii?” His eyebrows raised in question of what the resident wanted. He was ready to get out of this lab coat but of course he was being held up. If Ryeowook wasn’t nice his foot would be tapping right now. He kept his impatience concealed though. Soo In was a nice girl and all. “Would you like to grab some dinner and a drink with me?” Keeping his calm composure Ryeowook thought over the invitation. Friendly invitation would be okay, the latter not so much. Messing with colleagues was out of the question. There was something in her gaze that made him believe it was the latter. “I’m supposed to eat with my roommate…if you like you could join us.” He had learned not to use certain words. In this instance, ‘Join me’ would be a no. It might raise false hope as if he was inviting her as his date. Ryeowook didn’t need that headache. The girl readjusted the strap of her purse on her shoulder. “If you don’t mind.” He smiled, “Not at all. I’ll be back after I change and then we can go.”
Hyun Soo was already waiting at the restaurant, a little hole in the wall but had the best BBQ. When he saw his roommate following behind a pretty girl, he sighed. He called the ahjumma over to add another glass. “Hi, Hyun Soo-shii.” She bowed her head slightly before taking a seat. He only gave her a nod of his head and turned to Ryeowook. “How was work, hyung?” Normally Hyun Soo would say Ryeowook-ah but he knew better when the man brought colleagues around. “It was fine.” There wasn’t anything he specifically wanted to get into now. A lot of patients with a lot of needs. Nothing new.
Hyun Soo had already ordered and began cooking the meat for them. Soo In began the chatter that girls normally made and Ryeowook humored her. This was why, Hyun Soo was the first to notice who had just walked into the restaurant. He kicked Ryeowook under the table except a girly squeak came out. Hyun Soo looked up to see Soo In grimace in pain. “Sorry, uhh had a twitch. Does that sometimes. Sorry, Soo In-shii.” She waved her hand, “It’s okay.” She could tell he hadn’t meant to do it. Hyun Soo kicked again and made his mark. Looking up with questioning eyes, Ryeowook followed Hyun Soo’s and took in a deep breath. Not what he was expecting. Diverting his eyes quickly, Ryeowook focused on Soo In. “Are you okay?” He reached down, “Here let me see.” And grabbed her leg to examine it. Rubbing his hand over her shin where she had been hit, to soothe her. It also gave him time to question what the hell Jongwoon was doing in a place like this.
Well, he couldn’t do much about the situation so he sat back up. “Better?” He asked, only to meet the two pair of eyes he didn’t want to see. Not only that but they were moving closer and closer. “Much.” That single word from Soo In brought his attention back to his table. “Good. Good. Don’t be so clumsy Hyun Soo.” Ryeowook scolded while praying that Jongwoon had been looking past him or would turn around. That was not to be his fate though.
“Ryeowook-ah, what a surprise seeing you here.” That enticing melodic voice rang through his ears. Composing his outward appearance, Ryeowook looked up at the man standing next to him. “Jongwoon-shii.” Glares were being kept to a minimum today. “Nice to see you, Hyun Soo..and I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure of meeting you before.” Sometimes that man’s manners annoyed Ryeowook. The all too friendly and sweet smile was on Jongwoon’s face. Soo In smiled shyly and then bowed her head, “Hell, I’m Cho Soo In. Nice to meet you.” “The pleasure is mine.” Came Jongwoon’s reply, Ryeowook was ready to throwup at witnessing this exchange. “Ryeowook-ah can I talk with you for a moment?” Jongwoon turned his gaze back to the only two people present. “You wouldn’t mind me stealing him for a moment or two would you?” Before Hyun Soo could deny him, Soo In was giving permission. Ryeowook cursed under his breath. He didn’t understand what more they could have to talk about. Nor did he even want to attempt to. “Wonderful. Just a moment.” He raised a finger up to Soo In and Hyun Soo. “After you.” He said to the man still sitting in his seat. Ryeowook reluctantly got up and walked to the exit of the restaurant but before he could continue a arm grabbed him and a whisper was spoken in his ear. “We can sit here.” The chill that went down his spine was instantaneous. He fought off making any kind of indication that had affected him. Ryeowook took a seat at the table they had just past.
It was when Jongwoon took a seat and looked at him that the polite veil dissipated. His eyes were on the verge of being stormy. Something had irritated him. Ryeowook just stared at him blankly. He was the one who wanted to talk so he should talk. “Why haven’t you called?” Well, that didn’t take long. Jongwoon had always been the one to cut to the chase. Ryeowook liked to lay the groundwork first.
This was what was bothering the man? Ryeowook was baffled. “Do I have to?” He used to hate when others answered his question with a question but it was coming in handy. He could tell Jongwoon was taken aback by that reply. “It was a fuck. Why should I call…Unless of course you think you were so good as to receive a follow up?” Ryeowook was amused by this turn of events but kept his expression neutral. It took Jongwoon a minute but he replied. “Is this what you do now?” Very good question. “I’m not sure what you’re indicating. Could you be more specific, like, do I sleep with anyone. The answer would have to be no. Or do I sleep with people for more than just satisfying a physical need then the answer would also be a no.” He began to drum his nails on the table. Jongwoon could only stare at Ryeowook in disbelief of what he was hearing. “How much longer is this conversation going to be? I am actually hungry you know. Came for dinner and all.” He was being rude but Ryeowook couldn’t fathom why he was even talking to this man.
A hand was placed over Ryeowook’s, the one that had been drumming on the table. “Wook-ah?...” Ryeowook took his hand away, “Jongwoon-shii, you don’t know me and I don’t know you. Don’t address me so informally. If you want a follow-up, a text will suffice. Place and time. I’ll think about it.” With that, Ryeowook stood up and walked around the table back to his own. He poured Soo In a glass and let her pour him one then slammed down the soju and paid her so much attention that it would be clear to anyone and everyone that the two were either a soon to be couple or one that was just beginning. Ryeowook didn’t even care about the consequences he’d gain in the morning. Hyun Soo on the other hand was giving him worried looks all night that he ignored. As for Jongwoon his annoyance had been replaced with complete and utter bewilderment. Ryeowook had definitely changed.
