Thank you for sharing!

(BTW, it's hard for me to discuss politics with most of the people on the right side of the spectrum -- I lose my patience too quickly.)

Yeah, I agree, it can be incredibly hard to debate, the benefits when you find decent people on the opposing side are unexpectedly delightful though.

Thanks for this post. I very much (as a nearly complete non-Christian with rather major issues with Christianity) reject his self-applied label of Christian.

The horror of the whole thing is still completely unbelievable.

The sad part is, I guess, that he is as much Christian as a Muslim terrorist is Muslim, and he is as much right wing as a left wing terrorist is left wing. I just wish for the public hypocrisy to stop and for people to realize that *nothing* happens in a vacuum. Europe and the US have a power tip toward the Right wing conservative side, and this has created some *really* nasty undercurrents, just like large parts of the world, having a power tip towards Islam, has its own pretty horrid bag of bones.

..and of course other examples throughout history. If we don't *see* this, more mistakes will be made.

It is such a massively horrible and cold-blooded killing, it's almost incomprehensible. When someone blows up a building, they don't have to witness each person dying, but this man went and deliberately shot person after person. Just horrifying. My son said, "He said in his manifesto that immigrants and Muslims were a big threat to Norway, but it seems he's done more harm to Norway than any immigrant or Muslim." And true. He has more blood on his hands than any newcomer to the country.

Just awful. And the right wing and Christian fundamentalists will just have to accept that yes, their lot can breed vicious killers too. Doesn't make all right wingers or all Christian fundamentalists killers, not at all, but perhaps they can remember this when they start talking about left-wing radicals or Islamic fundamentalists.

Yeah, he in fact has more blood on his hands than *anyone* in Norway since the WWII. But this was directly aimed at the Norwegian labour party and their youth. A true hate toward the left, from a right winged political terrorist.

Your last sentence pretty much sums up what I wanted to say with this post, thank you.

I would almost prefer to believe this man is insane. The notion that a sane person could believe such a bloody and murderous act could possibly validate his views is chilling. That he thought his actions could inspire anything but horror and disgust speaks to a fundamental disconnect from human society - - but I suppose the same could be said for other acts of terrorism. Now I'm reading that the bullets he used were designed to cause maximum internal damage. How does this happen? At one point does a person decide that murdering unarmed teenagers isn't enough, let's use special bullets to maximize the carnage? And why is that when human beings are capable of creating so much beauty and wonder, there are still so many of us so eager to drag all of humanity down into a cesspool of violence, prejudice and murder? This was an act of unmitigated evil, and my heart goes out to the victims, their families and the people of Norway.

Preach it friend, preach it. No terrorist is "normal", if that makes up any small fragment of comfort, but there is a big difference between the terrorist pathology and being clinically insane. I think, the right wing parties' efforts to make this an act of some vague neo-nazi lone madman, is a way of diminishing what happened do the social democratic youth of Norway.

Having right wing views and being mentally ill mean the same to me.
