Check out this Barnes & Noble blog about the October Daye series.

Specifically, about seven awesome things about the October Daye series. I think there are many awesome things about the October Daye series, including the way it helps me keep the brain squirrels from eating me alive, but it's always super fun to see what someone else thinks of as ( Read more... )

They didn't mention the Luidaeg!!!

She's absolutely one of the better things about the series.

And how good a frequent re-read they are.

Also - all available as audiobooks - which is a BIG plus. (I'm listening to them all again on my daily commutes at the moment)

That is so very wrong of them. (re: overlooking The Luidaeg, which, when you think about it, is positively dangerous!)

And yes, the audiobooks, with Mary Robinette's fabulous narration!!!!!

Overall, though, a good list.

The don't talk about how awesome the supporting cast beyond Tybalt and May are. Especially Quentin. And Walther. And Raj. And Danny. And Sylvester. And so on.

The Luidaeg! And how very very well-built the world is -- there's such a treasure trove of lore in there, and it's clear that there's so much history and backstory behind all of the books that we won't necessarily see, but is there and holding the world together. UNF.

Thirding (fourthing? fifthing?) the objection to completely ignoring that one of Toby's chief allies is a cranky super-powerful sea witch masquerading as a nineteen year old with freckles. Who has some kind of brilliant plan of her own going on, and it might not end well for Toby (and I am so okay with that, #TeamLuidaeg5Ever)

Also how fucking awesome it is that Walther exists and gets to have happily ever afters and plots not directly related to his gender. And that Quinten has had a girlfriend and a boyfriend and it's not a big deal either way.

Alsoalso that no one's gonna get raped. That is a good promise. More writers should make that promise, means I'd have more books I feel safe reading.

So MUCH this! Seduction is fun - but rape? I cannot say 'no' enough!!

And favorite things? All the characters - and stories. So very wonderful! And is it wrong of me to somehow hope that after all the absolute crap that Eira has pulled, that she someday, eventually accepts Toby as her niece?

I agree that it's an important promise I wish more people would make.
