Would melamine work? I do like the matte finish, but I could see how that might get grubby pretty quickly, for sure. Acrylic gloss medium might end up chipping or peeling easily, but I guess hardware store folks might have a handle on that sort of thing. Or art supply stores, now that I think about it.

I'm not familiar with melamine. I'll scope it out. A trip to an art supply store sounds like a good plan, too. Thanks for the tips!
