Alas, people often choose what's easy instead of what's challenging, what requires effort, and what's rewarding because it requires effort. It's easier to open a jar than to prepare and simmer a pot of marinara sauce. Pre-fab is not rewarding, and those who choose it often get bored.
I think it's good to knead the dough, bake the bread and tear into the loaf, to stir up the fruit, roll the crust, bake the pie, eat the pie. I have little admiration for those who buy the pie, cram it in, then complain that it was too sweet and makes them heavy.
Which reminds me - I found a recipe for Levain Bakery chocolate chip cookies, which are supposed to be the best in the world. I know it's coming up on 13 Desserts season, and I'll be baking almost every day in December... but I like the thought of biting into these things after ballet class. Sore muscles followed by a great big warm cookie sound like a good partnership - what say you?
Who wants perfect?taylorj1037November 7 2019, 20:54:28 UTC
Aside from the fact that the word "perfect" has been used way too frequently lately by all the wrong people, I'm tired of it as well.
The self-improvement book I'm reading talks a lot about how just a few decades ago, we and our ancestors had very different expectations about life, and how hard or easy it can be. So your post fits right in that groove.

"Perfect!" LOL (My theory is that he said there's no quid pro quo because he doesn't even know what quid pro quo means.....)
For the most part, I am content to let people be who they are and things be as they are, to go with the flow, to roll with the punches, etc, but I do occasionally suffer from "Weltschmerz". And I have an over developed sense of justice. LOL

I love to knead bread, it is one of life's greatest pleasures, imho. I just might......might....try sourdough this winter! :) :) :)
