I was just talking to my new boyfriend (oooooh) about this being a musician thing last night because he's a musician and I do not consider myself to be one. I asked him if he had hoped he'd find another musician to be with because I'd sort of been hoping I wouldn't find a musician to be with. Although I did not tell him that. I'd been degrading myself like I'm not good enough to be with some musician. Even though I like to sing and whistle and play the piano but I don't do any of those things well. I think you're right about everything you said. Musician to musician.

I've read that there are cultures where it's totally normal to be walking around, singing whatever song is in your head or your heart. It's sad that our culture is so self-conscious and/or judgemental about expressing ourselves.

I literally dream about leading a group of people in a sing-along.

I'll keep working on it. I actually have a guitar, small keyboard, tabletop electric drum thing I got at a Goodwill, harmonica, and a couple other small, sound-producing items, but they're gathering dust.

oh yeah, and, as little as I know about my roots, I know my bio-maternal grandmother was a music teacher, and still leads a music program at her nursing home, I think. Another one of those thoughts an adopted kid visits. What is innate, and what is learned.
