Technically "You have to be a member of a protected group" would be discriminating.

On the other hand, in all fairness it's a pretty common self-contradiction. Doesn't make it any less silly, but it does explain that there probably wasn't any harmful intent in it.

They say no one will be discriminated, they say *nothing* about no one being reverse discriminated. Remember, favoring protected groups isn't discrimination.

That's the part I keep hanging up on in reading it... But does that technically count as a "contradiction" or merely a manipulation of word that people are so wont to use? It's likely supposed to make the invitation more appealing... But... I'm not sure about contradictory.

Maybe I'm just no good at this, huh?

I'd say so. anonymous October 4 2006, 20:30:07 UTC
Yes, it's self-contradictary. All they needed to legally state was that they were an equal opportunity employer, the rest of that was a given. They made it seem like they needed to hire a minority. There's no such thing as reverse discrimination. Reverse discrimination is being non-discriminatory.
They may as well have said "All niggers and spics and gays will be hired on sight."

Well, I'd have to say, that throwing the idea of Politicaly correctness on it's ear as an pathetic excuse for self hatered and forced conformity, that this is indead showing bias, and is therefore discrimination. If one of the groups were to be say, white men, or Catholics, then the minorities and alternate religions would be up at arms and the liberal fanatics would be there with them. Sad realy. If you want fair and ballanced equality, you must first remove the idea of religion, political boundries, skin tone, regional heretage, and other individualist ideas. In other words you must become a drone, lacking in any trait that makes you differant, to truely consider anything in a neutral way.
