Good luck! Hope it all get sorted out today... and, however it goes, hope you manage to enjoy the trip - whereever it takes you! Australia is a beautiful place.
The money situation sounds annoying. I had that happen to me when I went to Iceland (my former landlady was having a baby and thus took longer than I expected to return my deposit), and found myself there with considerably less money than I expected.
And yes, Australia is a pretty cool place. How long have you been there for?
That makes me feel better. Being out of money can make ya feel pretty stupid. And since you are clearly not a stupid guy, I don't feel so stupid now :)
I flew into Perth on the 26th of April, made my way to Sydney, down to Melbourne, back to Sydney, and stopping off in Bangkok on the way back to London. I get back on Monday afternoon.
You sound like you're making the best of the situation - pissed, but still, you're in Australia! And there are free things to do. So maybe this is the Universe's way of getting you away from the pricey tourist stuff and into the local bars and free museums and eating cheap fun food by the lake (or park, or whatever).
